Facebook e-driving school launched by Irish School of Motoring

Is there anything it can’t do? You can now learn to drive through Facebook…

NEED TO LEARN how to drive? No problem – you can now get trained up through Facebook, says the Irish School of Motoring.

The ISM e-Driving School page offers an “intuitive” experience for those trying to pick up driving skills – giving learner drivers the opportunity to complete a free series of driving modules.

A set of videos explaining the dos and don’ts of driving accompany the lessons, along with a list of instructions to help the learner to get a good appreciation of the rules of the road before getting behind the wheel.

Karl Walsh from ISM said, “Our website is very important to our business, but most Irish people in the age bracket that are doing their test are on Facebook so we decided to engage them with safer driving where they are.”

Walsh said that learner drivers tend to be very nervous about setting out on the road for the first few weeks, and added that this period of a driver’s life  could “shape their future driving style”. The virtual driving school, he said, aimed to allow learners to appreciate as much as possible about how they need to position themselves when driving. “We believe all young drivers should utilise such online resources to be as prepared as possible before they hit the road,” he said.

The ISM teamed up with Social Media experts Custom IT to create the page, which it hopes will be an “innovative and interactive service” that pushes the boundaries of social media, Walsh said.
