Gardaí bust fake medicine racket after year-long operation

GARDAÍ ARRESTED SIX men this morning during a sweep of addresses throughout the south-east.

They are suspected of illegally manufacturing and trafficking counterfeit medicines and other controlled drugs.

Gardaí this morning searched addresses in Kilkenny city, Carlow, Glenmore and Bennettsbridge Co Kilkenny, Lismore and Waterford, detaining six men aged between their mid 20s and mid 40s.

They also seized equipment and paraphernalia used in the production of medicines, as well as medicines in powder form, dyes, manufactured tablets and tablet presses.

The raids came after a 12-month operation that involved searches of manufacturing facilities found in Tipperary, Limerick, Kilkenny, Galway and Roscommon.

The six men are being held at several Garda stations throughout the south-east.
