Woman (24) dies after being hit by car while walking in Galway

The woman was walking with another man just off the N17.

A 24-YEAR-OLD woman has died after she was struck by a car in rural Galway last night.

The woman was walking with a 24-year-old man at Aucloggeen, Claregalway at about 12.30am this morning when they were hit by the car just off the N17.

She suffered fatal injures in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to University College Hospital Galway with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

The driver of the car was uninjured in the incident.

The body of the woman was removed from the scene to University College Hospital Galway where a post-mortem will take place.

The road is currently closed to facilitate garda investigators and diversions are in place.

Any witnesses to the collision are being asked to contact gardaí in Mill Street on 091-538000.
