Man (21) killed in Monaghan car crash

The accident happened at around 9.30am when the car the man was driving crashed into a tree.

A 21-YEAR-OLD MAN has died after the car he was driving crashed into a tree in Monaghan this morning.

Gardaí said the accident happened on the N54 at Aghnamallagh at around 9.30am. The driver had been travelling from Monaghan town towards Smithborough.

The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was brought to Cavan General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The cause of the crash is not yet known. Forensic investigators are currently at the scene  and the N54 is closed between Monaghan and Smithborough.

Gardaí have asked any witnesses or anyone who was on the road at the time to contact them at Monaghan Garda Station on 047 77200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
