Woman (80s) dies after crash in Tipperary

She was the mother of Pogues singer Shane MacGowan, according to reports.

A WOMAN HAS died following a crash in Tipperary.

The incident happened at around 3pm this afternoon at Ballintogher near Nenagh when her collided with a wall.

The woman, aged in her 80s, was the only occupant of the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

RTÉ News reports that the woman has been named as Therese MacGowan, mother of Pogues singer Shane MacGowan.

A post mortem is due to take place at Limerick University Hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nenagh Garda Station on 067-50450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

The road is currently closed while a forensic examination is carried out, and diversions are in place.
