Relief for Fine Gael as latest poll sees Kenny and co make gains

The party has seen its support slipping since the start of the election campaign.

THE LATEST OPINION poll has brought some much needed relief for Fine Gael.

The party has stopped its slide in support and gained two points in the Red C poll set to be published in tomorrow’s Sunday Business Post.

This puts the party on 30%.

The big losers in the latest figures are Sinn Féin.

Coming off the back of a difficult week in which one of its TDs has quit the party, it has dropped four points down to 16%.

These figure are in comparison to a poll published in the same newspaper last Sunday.

Labour and Fianna Fáil have seen their share of the vote remain steady on 8% and 18% respectively.

The independents have seen a two point increase in their support.

When taken against a Red C poll conducted mid-week by the Irish Sun, the gains for the main government party are more dramatic.

This comparison shows a four point increase for Fine Gael, a one point decrease for Sinn Féin, a decrease of 1 point for Labour and a one point decrease for Fianna Fail.

Other polls will be published later this evening, including a Behaviour & Attitudes poll that is expected to put support for the Labour party at just 4%.
