FINGLAS GARDA STATION in Dublin was evacuated this afternoon, after a member of the public walked in with a “suspicious device”.

Shortly after 3pm, a person walked in with what is understood to be a pipe bomb that they discovered near their home.

As a precaution, gardaí evacuated the building and put a cordon around the station.

The device was made safe at the scene, and has now been removed for further examination at a secure military location.

The scene was declared safe at 5pm.

Dublin North West TD Noel Rock told TheJournal.ie that the incident shows the “real and present danger that gardaí are facing every day here”.

He added: “The army are down on the scene now and hopefully everybody emerges safe and unharmed.”
