Firefighters donned breathing apparatus on arrival at the scene, amid reports that someone may still be in the flat. However, authorities later declared they were satisfied no-one else was inside.

The fire was put out, and the last fire brigade unit left the scene at around 4am.

Ballymun Sinn Féin Councillor Noeleen Reilly, who was at the scene this morning, said it was still sealed off as gardaí waited for fire investigators to arrive.
