Damage to three houses after oil tank in suburban garden set ablaze

The alarm was raised at around 1am, after it was reported that both an oil tank and a house were on fire in a Carrickfergus estate.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland are appealing for information following an arson attack in a housing estate on the outskirts of Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

The alarm was raised at around 1am, after it was reported that both an oil tank and a house were on fire in the settled Broadlands Gardens estate.

Police and fire fighters responded to the scene, and the PSNI says “substantial damage” was caused to the house, while “damage was also caused to two adjoining properties in the incident”.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Police are treating the incident as arson with intent to endanger life, and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact Newtownabbey Police Station on 0845 600 8000.
