Elderly woman rescued from burning building in Dublin

She has been taken to hospital.

GARDAÍ HAVE RESCUED an elderly woman from a fire in Dublin city.

A spokesperson for Dublin Fire Brigade said the woman was rescued from an apartment over the post office on Kevin Street.

The woman, who is in her 70s, suffered smoke inhalation and has been taken to St James’ Hospital.

Gardaí from Kevin Street were first on the scene and pulled the woman to safety. One guard is in hospital being treated for smoke inhalation.

The DFB spokesperson said two ambulances were deployed to the scene.

DFB received several calls from members of the public alerting them to the blaze.

The fire was brought under control before 5pm. Its cause is not yet known.
