Small fires quickly gathered pace at the area near Kilternan in the south of the county.

UNITS OF THE Dublin Fire Brigade are at the scene of a gorse fire at the Lead Mines near Kilternan in the south of the county.

Small fires this morning quickly grew, as units from Dun Laoghaire attended the scene.

A spokesperson for Dublin Fire Brigade told TheJournal.ie that three units are currently at the scene near the Wicklow Mountains, and described it as a “large gorse fire”.

Air support is also nearby, with a drone being used in the operation, the spokesperson said.

In a later tweet, Dublin Fire Brigade urged the public not to light BBQs or campfires except in designated areas.
