A huge fire has broken out on the roof of a hotel in central London

There are 120 firefighters at the scene.

TWENTY FIRE ENGINES and 120 firefighters are attending to a huge fire at a hotel in central London.

The fire is ongoing at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Knightsbridge with London Fire Brigade saying that the fire is located on the roof.

Plumes of black smoke can be seen rising from the building and are visible from the surrounding area.

The hotel has been evacuated by hotel staff are working to bring the fire under control and are also carrying out a search of the building.

London Fire Brigade says that firefighters are likely to be at the scene throughout the night.

One eyewitness described the scene to BBC News: “We could smell a really strong smell of plastic and outside we could see thick fire and it’s still going on.  There’s a thick strong smell around.”
