Nearby houses evacuated as emergency services battle fire at school in Cork

No injuries have been reported as a result of the fire.

GARDAÍ AND EMERGENCY services are at the scene of a fire at a secondary school in Mallow, Co Cork this morning.

Gardaí were alerted to the fire at about 3.20am this morning at the Patrician Academy secondary school at Bowling Green in Mallow.

A number of houses close to the school were evacuated as a precaution and road closures remain in place in the area.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the fire and the school is believed to have been unoccupied when it broke out.

Gardaí said that the fire is believed to be under control and that the scene will be preserved and will be technically examined when it is safe to do so.

It is believed that the fire is not suspicious at this time.
