Five arrested over plot to harm Pope Benedict

Police say papal visit remains secure and unchanged despite arrests.

POLICE IN THE UK HAVE arrested five people under terrorism legislation for allegedly planning to harm Pope Benedict during his visit.

Today is the second day of the pope’s short visit to England and Scotland.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police says the five were arrested around 5.45am today at a business premises in London after a tip-off. A number of premises around London are being searched by police.

Police say that security arrangements for the pope’s visit have been reviewed but will not be changed, and the UK threat level remains the same.
