Five arrests made in murder investigation of former Real IRA boss

The 37-year-old was fatally shot on Old Commons Road, Co Cork last December.

FOUR MEN AND a woman have been arrested this morning in connection with the murder of former real IRA chief Aidan O’Driscoll.

Aidan O’Driscoll (37) was fatally shot on Old Commons Road, Cork on Wednesday 7 December 2016.

O’Driscoll – known as ‘The Beast’ – was taken to Cork University Hospital where he as later pronounced dead.

Two partially burnt-out cars were found in different locations nearby – one on Redemption Road in Blackpool and the other in Killeens.

Three men in their 20s are being detained under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at Mayfield, Gurranabraher and Bridewell Garda stations.

A man in his 70s and a female in her 20s are currently detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at Togher Garda station.

These are the first arrests in the investigation.
