Darina Allen has called on the government to appoint one.

DARINA ALLEN HAS called on the next government to create a Minister for Food to combat obesity in Ireland.

The famous chef made her case during an interview on RTÉ One’s Today With Maura and Dáithí.

“Think of how important food is to our health and our energy. We have now official food policy in this country and we absolutely need a Minister for Food,” she said.

Allen has previously expressed her support for a tax on sugar-sweetened drinks to tackle type-2 diabetes and obesity.
