THE PREMIER LEAGUE footballer behind a UK superinjunction banning the publications of details of his affair with glamour model Imogen Thomas is believed to have filed legal action against Twitter and some of its users.
Bloomberg reports that papers filed with the High Court in London on Wednesday detail a case between “CTB” and “Twitter, Inc., Persons Unknown” – with the former anonymous initials being the same ones as those used in the case involving the footballer.
Neither Twitter nor the law firm representing CTB has responded to messages seeking comment. It was not clear whether the case is a claim for libel, or seeking damages for the breach of the injunction.
The action, if pursued, would likely mark the first time that Twitter itself has been subject to high-profile legal action – at least on this side of the world – over comments published on it by its users.
It would also mark the most high-profile case to date of Twitter users facing actions over their comments on the site.
