The Ford 100 Fest is bringing hordes of vintage Fords to West Cork

A big Ford car and tractor festival will take place in Henry Ford’s ancestral home village.

ATTENTION FORD FANS.

Make sure you head to the ancestral home-farm of Henry Ford at Ballinascarthy, Co Cork on Sunday, August 27. The West Cork Vintage Ploughing and Threshing Association is throwing a big party for all things, Ford.

The Ford 100 Fest will be sponsored by Henry Ford & Son Limited and will be a celebration of 100 years of Ford in Ireland. The event will feature displays of Ford models going right back to the iconic Model T and Model TT.

In fact, the Model TT is also celebrating its 100 anniversary. The Model TT was Ford’s first purpose-built 1-tonne van and was built in the Ford plant in Cork during the 1920s. It was based on the Model T but had a heavier frame and rear axle and it was longer and stronger. The cab could seat one driver and one passenger and owners could customise the chassis with a cargo bed to transport everything from letters to fuel.

The engine was started using a cranking handle on the front and for a smoother ride, customers could choose modern air-filled rear tyres instead of solid rubber.

In addition to all of the famous Ford cars from the past 100 years, the event will also see one of the largest displays of Fordson tractors ever assembled in Ireland. Fordson tractors were the first vehicles to be produced at the Cork Ford plant.

All proceeds from the Ford 100 Fest will be donated to the West Cork Vintage Ploughing and Threshing Associations charities of choice, which are: Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin; the Alzheimer’s Unit of Clonakilty Hospital; Cancer Connect; and West Cork Rapid Response.
