The new hybrid-powered Ford Mondeo is coming to Ireland after US success

Ford’s first mainstream hybrid petrol electric model arrives in Ireland in early 2018.

FORD IRELAND HAS confirmed that the hybrid version of the Mondeo saloon will go on sale in Ireland.

The hybrid Ford Fusion, which is almost identical to the Mondeo, has been on sale in the US since 2013 and it sells quite well over there. In fact, there have been only two occasions on which the benchmark hybrid, the Prius, has been outsold by another hybrid in the US – and both times it was by the Fusion Hybrid.

The new Mondeo Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) is based on a four-door body style with a 187hp 2.0-litre petrol engine and an electric powertrain mated to an automatic transmission.

Similar to other HEV models, the energy for the electric motor comes from the petrol engine and from regenerative braking where the energy generated by braking recharges the battery.

The Mondeo HEV has a fuel consumption rate of 3.8 litres/100km. As a comparison, a 150hp 2.0-litre diesel with Powershift automatic transmission has a fuel consumption rate of 4.8 litres/100km.

The Mondeo HEV is available in either Titanium or Vignale trim and is priced from €34,895. However when the current €2,500 VRT rebate for hybrid cars is taken into consideration and a special introductory offer, customers will be able to get into a new Mondeo HEV Titanium model from approximately €31,500 for a limited period. There will be a ‘walk up’ of a little over €2,000 to the top of the range fully-loaded Vignale model.

Speaking about the new addition to Ford’s fleet, Ciarán McMahon, Chairman and Managing Director of Ford Ireland said:

The arrival of Mondeo HEV in Ireland is the first step in a progressive Electric Vehicle (EV) development plan for Ford that will see seven new full or partial EVs hit the streets of Europe and North America by 2020, including a hybrid version of the iconic Mustang that will deliver V8 power and even more low-end torque.

The new Mondeo HEV arrives in early 2018 and is available to order now.
