Is this a museum of modern art or a truck driving school?*

*Spoiler alert: It’s a truck driving school.

LOOKING AT THIS building can you guess what it is used for?

A museum of modern art maybe? Perhaps it’s the abode of an eccentric millionaire?

It is actually used as a facility for a truck driving school in France. The structure has a yellowed front that is achieved with a “perforated aluminum cladded facade”.

The Lycee Des Metiers Georges Cormier technical high school is located just outside of Paris.

This has been designed by Ateliers O-S Architectes - a French company which has carried out a number of similar project previously – using the aluminium facade to great effect.

The work carried out on the building has also seen the installation of a new manoeuvre track for heavy-weight driving training – as well as new classrooms, workshops and a new car park.

The new modern design has also seen a rejuvenation of the building’s heating system and replacement of old woodwork.

The intention of the work is stated to be to “improve quality of everyday life of users and enhance the school’s heritage”.

The inspiration behind the design of the building was to create an effect similar to a petrol station or a highway toll booth.

The building’s overhang was specifically factored in with the use of allowing students to shelter from rainy conditions.
