Freddie Starr 'released on bail'

The comedian was reported to have been arrested last night by police on suspicion of sexual offences connected to the Jimmy Savile investigation.

BRITISH ENTERTAINER FREDDIE Starr was arrested last night and has now been released on bail, it is being reported this morning.

Last night it was reported that Starr (69) was the man in his 60s whom the London Metropolitan Police had arrested as part of the investigation into allegations of sexual abuse against Jimmy Savile.

The statement from the Metropolitan Police said that the man was arrested last night “on suspicion of sexual offences”, and “falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed ‘Savile and others’”.

It was reported by a number of news outlets that the man arrested was Starr.

This morning, Sky News reports that Starr was released on police bail in the early hours of this morning. The arrest came after Starr said at the weekend that he was prepared to speak to the police in relation to the Savile case.

The first person arrested as part of the investigation was convicted sex offender Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, last Sunday. He was released later that evening.

The police investigation centres on alleged sexual abuse by the late television presenter Jimmy Savile, the host of shows such as Jim’ll Fix It and Top of the Pops. It is estimated that there could possibly be 300 victims in this case.
