Funeral of Maeve Binchy to take place on Friday

The celebrated Irish author will be cremated on Friday following a funeral mass in Dalkey.

THE FUNERAL OF the celebrated Irish author, Maeve Binchy, will take place in Dalkey, Co Dublin on Friday it has been announced.

The removal will take place this Friday to the Church of the Assumption in Dalkey with her remains arriving at the church at 11.20am for a mass at 11.30am.

The mass will be followed by a private cremation. The family have asked that there be no flowers.

Anyone who may wish to make a donation is asked to donate to Arthritis Ireland or the Irish Heart Foundation.

Binchy passed away on Tuesday night following a short illness. Described as a “national treasure” by Taoiseach Enda Kenny, the former journalist had sold over 40 million books worldwide.

She is survived by her husband Gordon Snell and her sister Joan and brother William.
