GARDAÍ IN MEATH are investigating an alleged assault during a Gaelic football match in which a 17-year-old boy’s leg was broken.
The incident happened at Rathcairn GAA grounds at around 6pm on Saturday evening. An altercation broke out during the match between teams from local club Clann na nGael and Gael Colmcille, a club from Kells, and the 17-year-old sustained leg injuries.
He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
Gardaí said the teenage boy, who has been named as Conor Hayes, received “a suspected broken leg”. Investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made to date.
A spokesperson for the teen’s club, Clann na nGael, told TheJournal.ie they are “leaving no stone unturned in our search for information into the incident which resulted in Conor Hayes sustaining a double fracture to his leg”.
“Everyone in the club is very disappointed that this has happened to such a talented young player and we will be giving our full support to him and his family as well as any other investigation that may be carried out in relation to the incident.”
