THIS WEEK WE are checking out a gadget that provides hours of entertainment to those in the back seats… and hours of peace for those in the front.
What is it?
The Nextbase Car 7 are two 7-inch portable in-car DVD players, priced €167. Each device supports a range formats meaning it can be used as a portable movie player, music player or picture viewer.
What does it do?
You can play different movies on each screen to keep passengers of different ages happy – or use the supplied cable to play the same movie simultaneously on both.
The players come with in-ear headphones and also support wireless headphones. There is also a remote control.
The best thing about this particular model is that the sturdy Nextbase stanchion mounting system is also included. This mounting system clips onto the bars of the headrest and then the DVD player slides into place.
Why would I want it?
To keep the kids entertained and (hopefully) quiet and happy on longer car journeys. And with the midterm break on the way, these are a great alternative to hours of I-spy. Also, as the screens are mounted just above eye level it should help prevent motion sickness.
These of course can be used by front seat passengers too, and if you buy power adapters they can be used out of the car as well. Bonus.
