This head-up display projects your dashboard onto the windscreen, fighter-pilot style

Which looks cool AND increases driver safety.

THIS WEEK WE are checking out a head up display (HUD), which is a key technology aimed at reducing driver distraction and increasing driver safety.

HUDs are found on a lot of new cars but if your car doesn’t have one already, you can buy this device instead.

What is it?

This KKMoon HUD (€47) is a small device with a 5.5-inch screen and high-definition display that plugs into the car’s OBD socket using a micro USB lead. The unit then sits on the dash and projects information on to the windscreen in front of the driver.

What does it do?

It displays car and driving information onto the windscreen in the driver’s line of sight. This particular model displays speed, revs, water temperature, fuel consumption, mileage, gearshift reminders, and various other important bits of info.

Check it out in action here:

Why would I want it?

By projecting this information into the driver’s line of sight, it reduces the need for you to take your eyes off the road – which is said to improve safety.

Plus arguably it makes you feel like you’re in Top Gun.

What do users say?

Reviews on Amazon are very positive with an average rating of 4.2 stars out of five. User Jacob K was impressed, writing:

Really clear and easy to read, and highly customisable with the extensive settings. Highly recommended product.

And reviewer Wolf359 loves the product saying:

Gives a real futuristic feel to driving, especially at night, and of course provides a safer driving experience, as you don’t need to take your eyes off the road. The only downside I can think of is that the cable length was just a bit too short.

You can buy the KKMoon HUD online from ebay and Amazon.
