Investigation into Garda over alleged sexual assault of teen

A Garda has been suspended from duty according to the Connacht Tribune. Gardaí have confirmed they are investigating the matter.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING an alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl by a Garda based in Galway.

The Connacht Tribune reports that a long-serving Garda has been suspended from duty in a small Galway town following an allegation of serious sexual assault on a teenager.

Gardaí would not confirm whether or not the officer has been suspended but confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing. It reportedly occurred two years ago when the alleged victim was 18.

The Garda Ombudsman said that it was aware of the investigation being carried out by Gardaí and said that it was not investigating the matter at present.

Writing in the Connacht Tribune, Enda Cunningham reports that the complainant informed her solicitor of the matter in recent weeks and an official complaint has subsequently been made to Gardaí.
