Garda sustains serious leg injury in Dublin assault

The male garda was attempting to make an arrest for a public order incident on Camden Street.

A MALE GARDA sustained a serious leg injury while attempting to make an arrest for a public order incident in the early hours of this morning.

The incident occurred on Camden Street at 1am today and TheJournal.ie understands the garda sustained a blow to the face and broke his leg in two places.

He is now awaiting surgery at St James’ Hospital.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that the garda had been injured on duty and a man has now been arrested in relation to the incident.

John Parker, President of the Garda Representative Association (GRA) commented that “all of his colleagues are wishing him a recovery”.

“Once he’s been fully assessed, we’ll know the extent of his injuries but from preliminary reports there seem to be some fairly serious breakages.”

“These are the dangers we face on a daily basis in any public order interaction,” he added.
