Garda sergeant struck by car and driven along with him on the bonnet

A man has been arrested after he got in a car involved in road accident and struck a garda sergeant.

GARDAI IN WATERFORD are investigating an incident in which a garda sergeant was struck by a car and dragged along on the bonnet.

The incident happened in Waterford yesterday at 3pm at St Herblain Park.

The garda sergeant was at the time responding to a minor road traffic collision, when a man who was not involved in the road accident, jumped into one of the vehicles and drove the car towards the garda sergeant.

The sergeant sustained only minor injuries and he remained on duty following the incident.

The gardai later located the vehicle and an 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. He is still in garda custody.
