Man with loaded handgun chased by gardaí through Dublin park

The man is being detained at Lucan Garda Station.

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a man aged in his 30s, recovered a firearm and ammunition and seized a car after a chase in west Dublin yesterday evening.

At around 9.50pm, a man fled from a car while being followed by uniformed gardaí in the Collinstown area.

The man was pursued on foot into a nearby park. During a follow up search a firearm and ammunition was recovered and a man was arrested.

It is understood that the handgun the man was carrying was loaded.

The man was taken to Lucan Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

The firearm, described as a handgun, has been removed to the Garda Technical Bureau for ballistic and forensic examination.

An investigation is ongoing.

With reporting from Michelle Hennessy.

Very brave of the unarmed Gardaí – just think about what they did. Though no doubt the judge will slap them in the face by giving the criminal a suspended sentence.

Good job! Also worth noting that this scobe didn’t attempt to shoot at them! Had this been armed Gardai it may have been different! Moral of the story… Our gardai are probably safer as long as guns are not mainstream within the force!

@cholly wow did you come up with that all by yourself! Nice show of character! In case it was misinterpreted, that I was defending the scobe, I was not. But I do believe in that logic yes! Think about it.. You think if this was in the States that the guy wouldn’t have opened fire? Look at what logic has shown with animals such as rata… You corner them an they attack! If the gardai were armed this animal may have felt this way an attacked! So ya the logic behind it is sound. The longer our gardai remain unarmed the safer they will be! Even with the increased gun crime the number of gardai caught up in it is relatively low!

I thinks it’s more about how guns are used. For planned murders. On unsuspecting targets. Where tho in US its a norm for self defense. Those guys are used to guns and are not scared to use them. Yobs here are small minded idiots who don’t know how powerful the gun is even if not shot out of. He could have easily got away if he pointed the gun at them and told them to f off. What would they do? They’ only luck was he was dumb degenerate.

Gardai on the ground in this country are going a fantastic job with the limited resources and zero support from senior management. Gardai on the ground have absolutely nothing to do with what’s happening at the moment within the senior ranks.

I’ve great respect for the job the guards do George but let’s not be naive. The force is a reflection of its management. There is a need for a total rebuilding from the top down

@sum nah. To get ahead in guards it’s known one must be in a click and have to become what you hate really but only way to get ahead. Thats thanks to management. Your normal guard is dead on like any front liner. Except nurses they scare me. Still love them.

Is “Collinstown” just another name for Neilstown? The place they say isn’t gangland but is clearly gang effing central.

Sean. For a criminal to get a hand gun is as easy as it for you to get a loaf of bread. For decades guns have been brought into the country as sweeteners along with drug shipments.
