Gardaí appeal for witnesses to Ballyfermot shooting

A 32-year-old man was injured in last night’s incident.

GARDAÍ IN DUBLIN are investigating the circumstances of a shooting that has left one man in hospital with gunshot wounds.

The 32-year-old was injured in last night’s incident but his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

He was sitting in his car on the Sarsfield Road in Ballyfermot at about 11.10pm last night when he was approached by a lone male who fired a number of shots, hitting him at least once in the side.

The injured man was able to drive himself to Cloverhill Prison to ask for assistance. He was then taken to Tallaght General Hospital, where he remains.

Witnesses at the scene of the shooting have described a silver saloon car leaving the area at the time of the incident. A few minutes later, at about 11.30am, a silver car which had been set on fire was discovered at Golden Bridge Terrace in Inchicore. The vehicle has been removed for forensic technical examination.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who was in the Sarsfield Road or Golden Bridge Terrace areas last night to contact them on 01 666 7200.
