Gardaí disarm and arrest hatchet-wielding man after aggravated burglary

The incident took place in the early hours of this morning in Dungarvan.

GARDAÍ RESPONDING TO reports of an aggravated burglary disarmed and arrested a man bearing a hatchet last night.

The robbery took place in the early hours of this morning at a house in Dungarvan, Waterford.

A man entered the premises and threatened the occupants with a hatchet, and a stole a quantity of cash and a mobile phone.

Gardaí were already nearby, having received reports of suspicious activity in the area, when they were notified of the aggravated burglary, and soon spotted a man carrying a hatchet.

The 20-year-old was disarmed, arrested, and is currently being detained at Dungarvan Garda Station.
