Gang robbed men sitting in car on motorway

The stretch of motorway on the M7 was busy at the time of the incident.

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for witnesses after a robbery on the hard shoulder of a motorway.

This happened just after 12pm on Wednesday on the M7 to the south of Naas town in Kildare.

Three men, all in their 20s, had stopped on the hard shoulder in a blue Volkswagen Golf.

They were then approached by four men in a 151 reg white Volkswagen Golf, who pulled up in front of their car.

The three men in the first car were assaulted by the group of four who stole cigarettes from them.

Gardaí have said that the motorway was busy at the time and are appealing for information from anyone who might have been passing.

It has been established that the four men in the white VW Golf had come from Tallaght in the south of Dublin and travelled to Tullow in Carlow where they were stopped by gardaí and three men, all in their 20s, and a juvenile were arrested.

Three of the men were charged in relation to the incident and appeared in Naas District Court yesterday.

They have been remanded on bail and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the juevenile.

Anyone with any information is asked to get in contact with Naas Garda Station on 045 884300.
