Gardaí seek help in identifying road accident victim

A man was killed at around 4:30pm when he was struck by a van on the N4 in Roscommon – but he cannot be identified.

GARDAÍ IN ROSCOMMON are seeking the public’s help in identifying the victim of an overnight fatal road traffic accident in the county.

The man, a pedestrian, was killed when he was struck by a van on the N4 at Ardcarne, between the towns of Boyle and Carrick-on-Shannon at around 4:30am.

The deceased is believed to be in his 20s, and was wearing blue jeans, white runners, a grey t-shirt and a dark, charcoal-coloured zip-up top. He also had his head shaved.

The body of the deceased has been removed to Roscommon County Hospital, Gardaí said.

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the N4 in the meantime, as it is closed in both directions  pending a forensic collision examination. Diversions are in place.

Members of the public who might be able to assist in identifying the deceased, or who may have witnessed the collision, are asked to contact Gardaí in Boyle at (071) 9664620.
