After 54 years together, this gay couple in their 80s have finally tied the knot

“We didn’t know if we’d live long enough, but here we are. Do we get a senior discount? Best $90 we ever spent.”

THIS AFTERNOON, THE US Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is now legal in all 50 of the United States.

Social media has been run down with people reacting to the wonderful news, but one story in particular is drawing hot salty tears from the toughest among us.

Meet 85-year-old Jack Evans and 82-year-old George Harris.

They have been together for 54 years, and were the first in Dallas County, Texas to get a marriage license in Texas this afternoon. The activist couple have been fighting for marriage equality in Dallas since the 60s, and their day has finally come.

Much to the absolute joy of the internet…

Speaking to the Dallas News, Jack Evans simply said:

Everybody wins, nobody loses.

Harris, however, asked for a senior discount.

We didn’t know if we’d live long enough, but here we are. Do we get a senior discount? Best $90 we ever spent.

The couple were just subject of media attention last year when then Methodist minister who officiated their (unrecognised) wedding was suspended for doing so. He simply said ‘love over law’.

Well, love won this one for sure.
