"Stay in bed you freak": This is the kind of hate mail George Hook receives

Hook says that the mail “gets to him”.

BROADCASTER GEORGE HOOK is a man whose opinions can generate huge reaction.

However, the Newstalk host today tweeted a picture showing that sometimes that reaction goes beyond the acceptable.

Hook tweeted the picture today, showing a letter sent to him, saying that while he considers himself mentally strong, this type of mail “gets to him”.

The letter reads:

too bad your head wasn’t between the bumpers, It might have improved your brain and cured your slurring and dropped words. Stay in bed you Freak…..you are a disgrace to Broadcasting, a complete babling imbecile. Stay at home and play with your soldiers. [all sic]

The picture generated a wave of support for Hook.

Speaking on his Newstalk show this afternoon, Hook said that he would not allow the letters deter him from broadcasting.

He said the postcard had been read first by his wife, Ingrid.

“No matter how strong you think you are, when you get hate mail, it affects you.

“I was unfortunately in a car accident and the opening line is a reference to that.”

He said that the postcard contained a wanted poster for Osama Bin Laden and was accompanied by “an angry letter from a Leinster supporter” over an article which Hook wrote saying that Robbie Henshaw should stay in Connacht.
