George Michael's funeral takes place three months after his death on Christmas Day

A UK coroner has ruled that his death came by natural causes.

THE FUNERAL OF singer-songwriter George Michael has taken place at a private ceremony attended by his family and close friends.

Michael’s spokesperson confirmed that the funeral took place and said that his family has asked for privacy.

“We can confirm that the funeral of the singer George Michael took place today. Family and close friends gathered for the small, private ceremony to say goodbye to their beloved son, brother and friend,” the statement read.

George Michael’s family would like to thank his fans across the world for their many messages of love and support. We ask that the family’s wish for privacy be respected so that they can continue to live their lives privately, away from any media intrusion.

The funeral took place just over three months after the 53-year-old’s death on Christmas Day 2016.

The sudden death of the singer was found by a coroner to be a result of natural causes with no investigations now pending into the death.

Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in 1963, Michael shot to fame with the band Wham! which also contained Andrew Ridgeley.

Ridgeley was present at today’s funeral, as was Michael’s partner Fadi Fawaz who found the singer dead at his Highgate mansion in London.
