Lufthansa gives emails on Germanwings co-pilot's depression to investigators

It included correspondence to his flight training school.

LUFTHANSA SAID TODAY that the co-pilot of the crashed Germanwings jet had informed the airline in 2009 that he had previously suffered from severe depression.

The airline said it had handed additional documents, in particular medical and training documents, to prosecutors in the western city of Duesseldorf after “further internal investigations”.

Emails to training school 

These also included email correspondence from co-pilot Andreas Lubitz to his flight training school, where he, at one point, interrupted his pilot training for several months, it said in a statement.

He later received the medical certificate confirming he was fit to fly.

“In this correspondence he informed the Flight Training Pilot School in 2009, in the medical documents he submitted in connection with resuming his flight training, about a ‘previous episode of severe depression’,” Lufthansa said.

Lufthansa will continue to provide the investigating authorities with its full and unlimited support.

Investigators evaluating voice recorder data from a “black box” located after the disaster a week ago say Lubitz, 27, apparently locked his captain out of the cockpit and deliberately slammed the plane into a French mountainside, killing all 150 people on board.

German prosecutors said yesterday that Lubitz was diagnosed as suicidal “several years ago”, before he became a pilot, but had appeared more stable of late.

Treatment

Doctors had recently found no sign he intended to hurt himself or others, said Ralf Herrenbrueck, spokesman for the Duesseldorf prosecutor’s office.

However, he was receiving treatment from neurologists and psychiatrists who had signed him off sick from work a number of times, including the day of the crash.

Ripped up sick notes were found in a flat used by Lubitz, which authorities believe indicates that the 27-year-old was trying to hide his illness from his employer.

    A Patsy ? We must ask ourselves the question why this disaster has been explained so early and seemingly with such clarity within days or even hours , whereas the MH 17 Malaysian Airline disaster takes months if not years. Obviously something is been covered up in this instance for political reasons. Admittedly in this case the Media has been offering very convenient answers which cannot be disputed until further investigation has proved the legitimacy of their allegations. Meanwhile until investigations have been concluded I would not rule out any contrary alegations . Everything and every angle must be totally investigated.

    Pat, did you let your new FB buddy, Richard Moore, know you were copy and pasting stuff from his timeline and presenting it here as your comments?

    Nothing has ‘gone quiet’ on MH17. There have been three press releases this month alone from the DSB, and one from the JIT (just yesterday). I agree with you, the mainstream media pick and choose what they want to cover. There’s little point in waiting for the latest reactive posting from GlobalReseach or some conspiracy blogger to form an opinion before you reach yours.

    Again, everyone to their own, but I’d rather stick to facts than rambling postings that are not your own or are simply parroting someone else’s political cause.

    Are their no true journalists left in the world? Nowadays it seems you are you all just a bunch of idiots who copy and paste any info you can find when you type Lubitz into Google. It’s not about the investigation anymore in which 150 people tragically lost their lives, it’s about Lubitz. Lubitz is only one line of investigation and it’s easy to blame this man as he is no longer with us to defend himself. As an airline pilot myself I’m disgusted by the media and their sabotage of this investigation. Find the flight data recorder, release the tape of the cockpit voice recorder. Don’t jump to conclusions just because some unidentified “official” said something. What a load of crap.

    (4) The precipitous release of this information appears to have undermined the official investigation that is being conducted by the French ‘Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety’ (BEA) a civilian, not military, agency of the French government responsible for investigating aviation accidents, and established a narrative that has become the official truth of what happened to the plane – it was deliberately crashed by co-pilot Andreas Lubitz.
    (5) As the NY Times went to print on Wednesday, the head of the BEA was giving a press conference that was rightly cautious. BEA head Remi Joutytold reporters that while the CVR had yielded sounds and voices, there was not the “slightest explanation” of why the plane crashed and that days or weeks would be needed to decipher them. “There’s work of understanding voices, sounds, alarms, attribution of different voices,” he said.
    (6) Despite this, one day after the premature conclusions of the military official as revealed by the NY Times and the cautious comments of the BEA chief, public prosecutor Brice Robin agreed with the military official’s conclusion and decided to open a criminal prosecution case, saying: “the intention was to destroy the plane”. This is a disturbingly premature approach for a public prosecutor to take and it makes us wonder if someone wanted to quickly establish a narrative that would become the official story rather than wait for the results of a thorough investigation. Indeed, the act of declaring the crash a criminal case means that the investigation will no longer be primarily conducted by the BEA.
    (7) Whether or not a full investigation by anyone can even take place has, however, been thrown into doubt with the revelation that the all-importantdata card from the FDR is apparently missing. Given that the FDR itself has been found, the missing card is hard to explain unless someone deliberately confiscated it.

    (10) After the initial release of the basic information from the CVR about the “voices” and “lock out” from the cockpit, further details have been added and the story fleshed out by the mainstream media, with some pundits going so far as to ‘imagine’ what the pilot was thinking. Chief reporter for the UKTelegraph Gordon Rayner, for example, mused:
    (11) Something changed when Capt Sonderheimer began briefing Lubitz on the landing programme. Lubitz, 27, became “curt” in his replies, but, fatefully, Capt Sonderheimer thought nothing of it.
    (12) Amid this navel gazing, scant media coverage has been given to the eyewitnesses who heard an explosion and saw smoke coming out of the plane shortly before it crashed. A helicopter pilot in the French Air Force based in Orange, 30 minutes away from the site of the crash, said that the French Air Force had received a number of corroborating witness testimonies on this point. He also confirmed that debris was found upstream from the crash site – which he said confirmed the fact that the piece of fuselage had “been detached from the aircraft before impact”.
    (13) But the mainstream media rumor mill was already in full flow, and in the space of four days, co-pilot Andreas Lubitz went from an enthusiastic, outgoing young aviator with no sign of depression and dreams of becoming a long-haul flight captain, to a raging narcissistic depressive with a vision problem and a homicidal death wish, and ‘evidence’ taken from his house to back it up.

    Further information regarding MH 17 . The families here are being treated with such great injustice that is unimaginable in a normal civil society.
    Black box evidence as to why the aircraft had been diverted from its original flight route to a lower altitude and over a contested military area have not been disclosed. No wonder. The Black boxes have ended in an English military basis. Lies, and more lies.
    Very strange how everything has gone so quiet around the Malaysian airline that East Ukrainian Rebels were supposed to have shot down. Relatives of MH17 crash victims, angered by what they see as Dutch mishandling of inquiries into the disaster, want a special UN envoy to launch an international investigation. A letter sent to Prime Minister Mark Rutte some time back, said Dutch officials had failed to build a case. They asked that inquiries by the Safety Board and prosecution service be handed over to the United Nations. Rutte should “request the UN to appoint a special envoy to take over,” said the letter written by Van der Goen Attorneys. The Dutch Government have so far refused. While the US will not release their satellite pictures and Ukraine refuses to hand over flight data for that day they have reason to be very skeptical . There is also of course mounting evidence that Ukraine jetfighters shot down that plane which will explain many irregularities. Also Malaysian authorities are being repeatedly blocked from participating in the investigation. Malaysia has a justifiable right to be part of any investigation – it was a plane from their national airline; several of their citizens died; the pilots were Malaysian.
    This is what the Malaysian ambassador in the Netherlands,Mohd Taib, had to say:
    “We are, in spite of repeated requests by our side, not involved in the joint investigation team led by the Netherlands. And that while it is about our national airline. We want to do justice to the victims who perished in the disaster.” There is also the very strange situation That Kiev, a potential perpetrator of the crime have been given a veto right on any information disclosed concerning the results of the investigation. This does not point to impartiality and is similar to an accused having a veto right on the outcome of the jury.

    It is also very conspicuous that the BBC interview near the crash site just after the accident, where a witness said she saw a military plane flying close to MH17 has been taken down from you tube and has also disappeared from BBC Archives.
    Very good documentary on the downing of M17 including contributions from German military experts and comments from the increasingly frustrated lawyer representing the Dutch victims families

    I’m tired of seeing “depression” being linked to this tragedy. Depression did not cause this; the guy was obviously a narcissistic sociopath who had no value for humanity.
