Battle of the Opposition parties: Gerry Adams takes on Fianna Fáil over 'hypocrisy'

Adams rounded on the party for its political opportunism.

SINN FÉIN LEADER GERRY Adams has taken aim at Fianna Fáil over what he described as the party’s “hypocrisy and political opportunism”.

He spoke as Fianna Fáil aims to build on the momentum of recent opinion polls at its annual conference in Dublin this weekend. The two parties have repeatedly clashed as they battle to be seen as the main Opposition party in the Dáil.

Micheál Martin began the Ard Fheis last night by saying that his party would not let the government away with its “growing list of broken promises”.

“We all know that Micheál Martin was central to the discredited Bertie Ahern and Brian Cowen governments,” Adams said in Dublin today.

“Fianna Fáil policies sunk the economy leading to great hardship for ordinary families”.

Fianna Fáil is the party that proposed the Family Home Tax and it was Fianna Fáil’s developer-led housing policy which led to the mortgage crisis, now causing so much distress to so many families.

“There is little difference between the Fine Gael-Labour coalition and Fianna Fáil policy”.

Adams said Sinn Féin was the only party which offered an alternative to the “conservative political consensus”.
