This photo of Gerry McCann was taken day before he went missing

Family and friends of actor hope image will help jog public memory.

CONCERNED RELATIVES AND friends of actor Gerry McCann have released the most recent photograph they have of the missing man in the hope that it will help efforts to trace him.

The photograph above was taken just last Wednesday. The last confirmed sighting of Gerry was the following day, Thursday, 26 September, at 11am in the Stillorgan area of Dublin. He was wearing a grey jumper with brown trousers and brown shoes at the time. His phone was last pinned to a mast in Ballsbridge.

His wife Andrea appeared on the airwaves over the weekend appealing for information on her husband’s whereabouts. He doesn’t have his wallet with him, and hasn’t accessed his bank accounts. Actor friends including Pat Shortt, and the wider community, have rallied around the family in the search.

Shortt said this morning that the disappearance was “very much out of character” for the 47-year-old man. He said that Gerry – a father of two from Baldoyle – is a very soft-natured man and that if anyone spots him they should try to speak with him, rather than just report the sighting (of course, you should also do that.) Gerry is between 5ft 9in and 5ft 10in in height with blonde-grey hair, of medium build.

A Facebook page has been set up to encourage sharing of Gerry’s image and to raise awareness. These two other photographs might help jog people’s memories. One is the image of Gerry that most people will already be familiar with:

The second is a professional headshot used for his actor portfolio:

This clip from TodayFM yesterday features an interview Anton Savage carried with Gerry’s wife Andrea. She says that her husband had been stressed recently but is “a very gentle, friendly, charming man, very engaging and funny” and asked people to speak with him if they encounter him.

She mentions that there is a possible sighting of Gerry speaking to an American tourist on the Dart on Saturday morning, travelling on a northside-bound train from Blackrock, and last seen at Pearse Street station.

RTÉ’s Stills Library has also kindly shared this photograph of Gerry for publication on TheJournal.ie. It is of Gerry during his stint on Fair City as the character Phil Conway. While Gerry looks a little different now, it might help jog your memory:

You can see Gerry in one of his more recent acting jobs, alongside Pat Shortt in Lance Daly’s film Life’s a Breeze. If you watch the trailer (click here), you’ll see Gerry in many of the shots with blonde hair parted to the side, wearing a checked shirt.
