INDIA’S PRIME MINISTER in the early 1980s sent “warm greetings” to Taoiseach Garrett Fitzgerald as she flew over Shannon.

Gandhi was the only woman to hold the office of Prime Minister in India and the second  longest-serving leader. She was assassinated by her two bodyguards in 1984.

In correspondence to the Taoiseach as she passed overhead, she also sent good wishes to “the friendly people” of Ireland.

Isn’t that nice?
