Grandmother begins 1,500 mile charity motorbike ride in Dublin

Loralee West has traveled from the US to make the trip on the back of a bike in aid of Depaul International.

LORALEE WEST, A grandmother from the US has arrived in Dublin to begin a 1,500 journey on the back of a motorbike through Ireland and the UK.

The trek is part of an effort to raise €160,000 for the Depaul International organisation, which addresses homelessness in Ireland, the UK, USA, Slovakia, Ukraine and France.

West is following up her last ‘Leap of Faith’ – a parachute jump, with this bike ride, which will take her and her team from Dublin through Sligo, Derry, Belfast, Newcastle and Manchester to finish up in London on 22 June.

She said before the decision to take this trip, she had never been on a bike in her life. She won’t be driving herself, but rather will be depending on the skills of her driver Monty Heath, a former Navy SEAL.

Several other more experienced riders are also making the trip, along with West’s youngest son. Kerry Anthony, who is the Chief Executive of Depaul Ireland will make up part of the support team.
