3Arena bans handbags and backpacks from tomorrow's Shawn Mendes concert

Only small bags measuring 4.5in x 6.5in will be permitted.

THE 3ARENA HAS updated its security restrictions ahead of a concert taking place tomorrow.

A customer announcement for the Shawn Mendes concert – which is on tomorrow 30 May – states that “backpacks, larger purses or bags are not allowed”.

The statement specified that, “Only purses or clutches measuring 4.5in/11.4cm x 6.5in/16.51cm or smaller will be allowed.”

It added that, “A full body pat down search and/or metal detector search will take place prior to venue entry.”

Customers are also being told that pocket contents will need to be completely emptied and viewed during the search process and they are encouraged to minimize jackets and additional layers when possible.

People heading to the concert are being asked to carefully review the updated security restrictions and protocols.

3Arena said adhering to the policies will ensure that everyone gains entry to the venue in a safe and timely manner.

It comes after a special meeting was held last week in the wake of the Manchester attacks to assess how prepared Ireland is in relation to terrorist threats.

The meeting, which was chaired by the Taoiseach, heard that gardaí are working closely with event organisers to ensure that appropriate safety and security measures are in place at events over the summer.
