Michael Healy-Rae's brother is running for election with him

“If the votes are there for us, we’ll find out soon enough.”

DANNY HEALY-RAE, the brother of Kerry TD Michael, is to run for the Dáil.

Radio Kerry revealed this afternoon that Danny will join his brother as the eminent Kerry family target a second Dáil seat.

The family, which includes another politician in Kerry councillor Johnny, believes they can get the votes necessary to send the brothers to Leinster House.

“We’re running two candidates,” Michael told TheJournal.ie today.

Danny will be focusing on the Killarney municipal area, where we’ll be asking people to give him their number one and me their number two.

“I will be in the opposite end of the county asking people for their number one and Danny their number two.”

The family has had a personal vote in the area since 1991 and have often been asked about turning that popularity into a movement.

Michael told TheJournal.ie that those questions will now be answered.

We’ve been asked a long time and we’re finally going to do it.

“If the votes are there for us, we’ll find out soon enough.”

If both are elected, they will join the likes of Bertie and Noel Ahern, Richard and John Bruton and Conor and Brian Lenihan as brothers serving in the Dáil together.

They would, however be the first family members to represent the same constituency at the same time.
