CPR-trained Sergeant Simon Harman just happened to be nearby, when 17-year-old Hollie Tillbrook collapsed in a restaurant.

A SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD girl who suffered a heart attack in the English town of Basildon was helped by a CPR-trained police officer and an off-duty German soldier – who just happened to be nearby.

Hollie Tillbrook was at a restaurant in Festival Leisure Park when she collapsed.

Police Sergeant Simon Harman from Barking and Dagenham was off duty when he came across her on the ground outside the restaurant.

With the assistance of the German officer, who was on a week’s leave, they worked together to save the young girl’s life, performing CPR until the ambulance crew arrived.

The teenager was taken to a local hospital without knowing the identity of the two men who came to her aid – and thankfully made a full recovery.

Sgt Harman was tracked down after Hollie approached her local newspaper to try and trace the pair, so she could thank them in person.

Meeting the girl and her family outside the same Basildon restaurant, Harman said he was pleased he was able to help. ”Thankfully I have received the appropriate training and had the right assistance to help her through this awful ordeal,” he said.
