Ballymun murder: Gardaí appeal for witnesses who saw 'high-vis' gunman

Window cleaner John O’Regan was shot by a lone male who was wearing a high vis jacket and a baseball cap. The attacker then cycled away.

GARDAÍ HAVE ISSUED a renewed appeal for information on today’s fatal gun attack in Ballymun, north Dublin.

A murder investigation is under way after 48-year-old John O’Regan, a window cleaner, was shot dead as he cycled on Gateway Avenue at around 8.45am.

The victim was rushed to the Mater Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In a detailed witness appeal, gardaí say the attacker approached the victim on a push-bike and shot him a number of times before cycling off in the direction of the Ballymun Road.

He was said to be wearing a baseball cap and high vis jacket.

According to the Garda statement:

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Gateway Avenue and Ballymun Road at approximately 8.45am this morning to contact them.

They are particularly appealing to anyone who observed a male cyclist fitting the above description in and around the general area to come forward and contact the incident room.

A post-mortem examination on John O’Regan’s body was carried out by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis at Tallaght Hospital this afternoon, and gardaí have set up their incident room at Ballymun Station.

Examinations have been continuing at the scene, and a garda liaison officer has been appointed to the victim’s family.
