Hillary Clinton, world foreign ministers meeting in Dublin today

Some of the most powerful ministers from around the world will be meeting in the RDS in Dublin from this morning.

IT’S A BUSY 24 hours for some members of the government.

Foreign ministers from around the globe, including Hillary Clinton of the US, William Hague of the UK and Sergey Lavrov of Russia, are meeting in Dublin this morning for the Ministerial Council of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

Ireland is the chair of the OSCE – an international security body – for the duration of 2012 and will be hosting the two-day event in the RDS.

The summit will be the largest ever gathering of foreign ministers in Ireland with almost all of the 56 members states of the OSCE are expected to be represented at the event.

The US State Department confirmed that Hillary Clinton will meet with Irish officials to discuss areas of cooperation in promoting peace, human rights and economic growth.  Taoiseach Enda Kenny will hold a joint press conference with Hillary Clinton later on today.

Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has said Ireland is using its time as chair of the OSCE to focus on human rights issues.

The OSCE meeting will be livestreamed from today here.
