Car hack: Turn up the heat to cool down the engine

Follow this handy tip to cool an overheating engine.

IS YOUR CAR’S engine getting a little hot under the hood? As long as there is no steam or smoke coming from the bonnet, follow this quick tip to help cool an overheating engine.

If the air-con is running, turn it off. Then, turn the heat on full power. The heat from the engine goes into the heater core, which pulls the temperature of the coolant down. Basically, you are transferring heat away from the engine and into the car.

This means the interior of the car will get hot but you can roll down the windows if it gets too much.

If this doesn’t cool the engine down or if the engine overheats regularly you should get it checked out by a qualified mechanic.
