PUBLIC EXPENDITURE AND Reform Minister Brendan Howlin has expressed confidence that the Dáil’s Public Accounts Committee will get to the bottom of the scandal at the Central Remedial Clinic.

Howlin was speaking on his way into Cabinet this morning when he was asked about the CRC in the wake of the chief executive, Brian Conlan, resigning yesterday.

Conlan has said he will not be appearing before the CRC, but Howlin told reporters: “Anyone who’s involved in the public’s money should make themselves available to the Public Accounts Committee.”

Howlin said that the PAC is “robust” and “they normally get to the bottom of things” adding  that they will “pursue this until they get the full facts”.

The Minister pointed out that committee has the “power of compellability” but said that is “strictly a matter for the committee” itself.
