SIX UNITS OF Dublin Fire Brigade are currently battling gorse fires in Howth Co. Dublin.

The fires began yesterday but fire-fighters received several reports that the fires were rekindled this morning at about 5 am.

The fires appear to be concentrated on the southern side of the peninsula near Howth Golf Club and on the eastern hill top of the the two summits on the peninsula.

That southern side of Howth head is less populated than the northern side and no houses are thought to be at immediate risk from the fire.
