Rule #1: Don’t sneak up on people from behind.

THE DELIGHTFUL HUMANS of New York is one of the most popular photo blogs out there (it has a whopping 4.7 million Facebook likes), and its founder Brandon Stanton has a special gift for finding out people’s most intimate thoughts.

HONY

You’ve probably wondered how on earth he manages to get such deep and emotional responses from strangers while taking their portraits on the busy streets of the Big Apple.

It turns out that it’s all about being totally sound – and not creeping up behind people.

Stanton visited UCD recently, where he was given the James Joyce Award by the university’s Literary and Historical Society.

He also had a good ol’ chat with the students, and spilled the beans on how he does his interviews.

Naturally, a mortified Irish person was called in to help – and Stanton loved her unexpected response to his question.
